As we prepare to leave Rat Cay, we are reminded of the importance of finding safe anchorage during unpredictable weather. Rat Cay served us well through a recent windstorm, allowing us to hunker down comfortably amidst the rough seas. However, after a few days of waiting, it was finally time to set our sights on Green Turtle Cay.

“What did you think of Rat Cay?” I asked Danielle as we got ready to depart. She replied, “It’s a nice place to hunker down for some horrible winds and waves. We weren’t supposed to stay here that long, but that’s how sailing goes sometimes!”

With the wind picking up, we made our way towards Green Turtle, which is just a short hop away. It’s always exciting to see other boats leaving the anchorage as we prepare for our next destination.

Arriving at Green Turtle Cay

After a brief sail, we arrived at Green Turtle Cay. The water was stunningly clear, and the scenery was picturesque. As we anchored in about eight feet of water, we were excited to explore this beautiful island.

Danielle dropped the anchor while I checked our scope. “We’ve got a 6:1 scope here, which should hold us well,” I said, feeling relieved as we settled into our new surroundings. Looking around, I noticed the charming houses lining the shore and the vibrant energy of the local community.

Our first task was to refuel and stock up on some essentials. We hopped off the boat with our puppy, Bella, ready to embrace civilization after our time at sea. Our “chariot” for the day was filled with fuel cans, and Bella was eager to explore the new environment.

Danielle speculated it might have belonged to a conch.

“There’s so much life here, but where are all the fish?” I pondered aloud. We both agreed that the water looked too beautiful to be devoid of marine life.

Getting Groceries and Local Delights

After enjoying our time at the beach, we decided to head into town for some grocery shopping. We needed to stock up on veggies and other essentials. The local grocery stores offered a glimpse into island life, and we were eager to see what they had to offer.

As we walked through the aisles, I quickly realized that prices were higher than we expected. “$38 for grouper? That seems a bit steep,” I commented, while Danielle agreed that provisioning here could be costly.

Despite the prices, we managed to pick up some eggs and other necessities. “We’ve spent over $100 on food between our previous stop and here,” I noted, trying to keep track of our expenses.

Relaxing at a Local Café

After our grocery run, we decided to treat ourselves to coffee at Calypso. The café had a cozy vibe, and we were excited to indulge in some refreshing drinks. I ordered a mango smoothie, while Danielle opted for a cappuccino.

“This is the perfect way to end our day,” I remarked, enjoying the vibrant atmosphere around us. The local traffic was lively, with many golf carts buzzing about, showcasing the island’s laid-back lifestyle.
