Ok guys, so I'm going to show you everything I used to get this hub assembly on the rear of a Lincoln LS
0:11
This is a 2004 model. It looks very similar to all of them
0:15
So I'll just do it for this car because this is the one I have
0:19
I have to take this hub assembly apart because the bearings in here are bad or going bad and
0:29
they are making a lot of noise going down the road. It sounds like tire noise, but if you shake this, it is a little loose
0:42
Now I have the whole thing loosened up so it looks exaggerated, but yeah, it is a little loose
0:48
You don't want really any play in that. Playing that's bad. So y'all stay tuned
1:22
Well, I took out my pads first. So I took this off and my pads off to get them out of the way because you don't want
1:33
to spray your pads down with any lubrication. Then I took a liquid wrench and I sprayed all the bolt bolts
1:42
There's a bolt here, bolt down here, bolt right here. So that's right here, and then there's a big bolt back here
1:54
So I sprayed all of them down the liquid wrench. Then the tools I used for this, oh, I also sprayed this nut
2:04
This nut right here is a 36 millimeter. That's your hub nut
2:13
This three quarters goes right here on this big one
2:24
This 15mm works for these right here and also the bottom one of this tie, which on the other
2:33
side of this is the 13mm. So 13-15 takes this off. And then for this nut under here, I have to use a 3-quarter and an 8-millimeter
2:48
The 8-millimeter holds. There's a little clamp, I mean a little nut on the bottom built into the bolt, and you
2:58
can turn the nut off or else this whole thing spins. And then right back here for the anti-lock sensor is an 8mm
3:12
I used a socket, you can use a wrench if you want. And then of course all the tools necessary
3:19
Oh, to take off this caliper is a 12 right here. So let's get into it and I'll show you what it looks like
3:31
So after your caliper is out of the way, you'll take a 15mm right here and you'll loosen up
3:39
there's two bolts. You'll loosen them up and take them out. This will free this out of the way
3:50
And I always put my bolts back in here so it's just organized
3:56
Makes them easier to find. that frees that up. Then you can look at this bolt down here. This is where I used this 3
4:08
quarter and on the other side I held it with a crescent. So I used a 3 quarter and a crescent
4:18
wrench. I held the other side with the crescent wrench and I used the impact on this side to
4:24
pull that right there I use this little 12 volt impact that came with my
4:31
emergency kit and jack kit it worked just fine it also pulled off this big
4:36
bolt on the front with the 36 millimeter and the tire so take this off
4:49
This will free up the bottom. I took out this tie rod
4:55
This will loosen up the assembly a lot. And be sure to put your nut back on your belt so you don't lose it
5:04
And you'll see it start twisting. Here is your anti-lock. This is an 8mm
5:14
And I just moved that out of the way. I put the 8mm bolt right back in there so I don't lose it
5:21
Then we go ahead and remove this bolt on the bottom. I'll stick the bolt right back in there like that
5:31
It's a big bolt. And this will free up this assembly to move and I can show you what this looks like right here
5:41
So you'll see on the bottom there is a 8mm and then on the top
5:47
if you can hold this you have to hold this down that's why I left the bottom one in
5:58
because you have to spin this nut off down here on this control arm
6:07
the bottom control arm is off easier on this side
6:18
okay now we've got that off and that just hanging there okay Okay and so from here we got to get this hub pulled off this axle Everything out of the way
6:45
So I messed it. My camera stopped recording. I took the disc off right here. There was some
6:51
little clamps holding on or some screws I just had to cut them take screwdriver
6:56
wedge into it cut them off and then I took this this tool right here and I set
7:09
it up so it pulled onto this and now I use my impact my impact that came in the
7:16
I'll leave a link down below, but this is a great emergency kit for on the go and
7:24
It pulled right off. I did spray a lot of liquid wrench in this
7:31
because I wanted it it was really caught on there but My neighbors are really loud. They're over there. I guess painting or something, but I
7:42
I got it off. So this is what it looks like. So you're looking at the assembly here and there should be a ring in here that you have
7:53
to take out. Yeah, it's right here. So I have a ring tool that I can pull that out
8:01
Or a C-clamp. I'm going to go ahead and clean this up and then I'm going to get that C-clamp out of there
8:09
and then I have to press this out. Now on this, this is a one bearing
8:16
Let's see. It's got a little bit of play. Very little. But I guess that was enough to cause my huge noise going down the road
8:33
But very little play was in this. So I've got to get this apart so I can replace the bearing
8:45
I may have to take it in and get it pressed out. I don't know
8:50
Hopefully I can take you along with me as I press it out
8:54
And there's how you get your hub out. Make sure your hub is not scarred up or anything
9:13
Let me get out of the way. So to remove this you want to cut a little slice in it and take your air chisel and
9:39
Ram that thing off. This gives you a footing to air chisel from
9:44
Then Mike has already lubed The shaft or the hub for the new bearing
10:03
You want to make sure you lube up your new bearing before you try to shove it back in there
10:10
shoving it back in there. Okay guys, just got back from Mike's Automotive and the shop's been open for 30 years
10:37
did a great job. I just put the C-clamp back in. I used a set of DLDs. Really simple to
10:44
put a C-clamp back in. But, ready to get this back installed. I'm going to take you through
10:49
installing it because if I was unclear when I uninstalled it, hopefully I'm clearer as
10:56
I install it. But if you're looking at Mike's Automotive, it's here in Hudson if you're in
11:01
this area and great shop very fair prices to press this bearing in you know
11:07
$50 take out the old bearing bring the new bearing and press it all back
11:12
together also if you're not in this area check out stone stone gear.net this is
11:20
gear they offer like shirts bags things like that for all you hunters out there
11:26
There's a lot of cool pictures on different gators and other things they do
11:33
And they also offer honey on this other site. So check them out
11:38
Really nice people. I enjoyed the time I spent just at their shop
11:43
So one of the first things you have to do when putting this light together is you have to put the hub assembly back on the car
11:49
Now you want to make sure your lug nuts are facing outward because inward would be kind of problematic to put the tire back on
11:57
So let's go ahead and stick this back on. Okay, and turn this this way so we can line it up to that way
12:13
So, and now we want to start putting the pieces back on. on. I need to get something to hold this in place, so why not start with this. This thing
12:24
right here, this should hold it up. So, line that up, slide that on, stick a nut on the
12:36
bottom There done It looks good as new Now let get a different camera angle as we start putting the rest of this back together Well we don need one for this So go ahead and slide this in place
13:07
Remember I put all the bolts and the nuts back together so I wouldn't lose them
13:37
Put the nut on the bottom. Easy peasy. Okay
13:55
And the drive axle is turning nicely now. Okay. Now that we're in the other side
14:02
This thing is still loose. I gotta put this back on which is
14:09
this long skein bolt. Slides in here. And that goes on the bottom
14:29
Now I have the sensor right here It goes back here where I screwed this bolt back in
14:39
This is your anti-lock braking sensor Stick this on so we have anti-lock brakes
14:51
which is preferred when stopping because you can slam on the brakes and not skid out of control
14:58
and this is a 8 millimeter okay there we go that is wow there's not much to prove
15:11
on this yeah I'm all out of parts and pieces minus the brake and the rotor so
15:19
let's go ahead and tighten this on we'll start with this right here this was a
15:26
13 out of 15 turn all my ratchets to tighten there
15:38
it's good and tight and you have your 8mm on the bottom here
15:46
this guy and Let's go ahead and take the, the, uh, this thing called, the anti-lock brakes back off
17:03
because we don't want it to hit when we're pulling it out
17:07
This is where the big socket comes in. That's pulled it all the way back up
17:21
To tighten this up really good, you probably want to put the tire back on the ground
17:30
So you can actually put some torque to it. Ok now let's put this back on
17:41
The short time I had this off I almost lost it. Now we have to tighten this bottom one
17:58
I used the impact to take this off. A 12 volt impact
18:05
Set the right size. There's no play in that. Now we need a disc
18:19
Throw the disc back on. Now put this guy back on
18:59
When you pull the tire up on this, it'll tighten the disc
19:15
Now we have to put the disc back on. Okay so after compressing the brakes a bit I was able to get this back on Just used a C wherever it fell Right here to
19:33
Put a little extra force on that to move that Man And then zip these brakes in place
19:51
Okay, guy on, a little persuading and Okay, we are almost done
20:06
That grease came from when I popped out the seat lamp. It has a lot of energy built into it
20:13
But, let's get this jacking up. You can safely be away from the car as it is doing its thing
20:28
In case you are screwed up, the car will fall on you if you are far away from it
20:50
and we're going to take this for a test drive and see how it does
20:55
Also, oh shoot, don't forget, if that's on the ground, take and check your battery
21:01
I'm going to leave these caps off, these leaking caps off, until I have, I'm sure it's good
21:16
And it's in neutral. There we go
21:28
Look up the torch spec for your vehicle before attempting this. Okay guys, let's go for a ride along, see how it sounds
21:58
It still rolls because it sounded like really bad road noise and I don't hear anymore
22:19
Sounds really quiet. Wow, this car sounds brand new. I could probably listen to the radio much lower and it would actually be crystal clear
22:35
We're going to get this thing up to a little bit of speed. After this spin, of course, we'll go through and we're going to check everything, make sure everything's still tight
23:17
Speed limit 50. I'm getting past like I'm now moving. Here we go
23:30
Seems to run great. Took it for a test drive. Sounded good
23:36
And hopefully this video was helpful for you. Now, the bearings cost about $50
23:44
And then having them pressed in was another $50. So, me doing the labor, that was $100 plus, you know
23:53
the machine shop to press the bearings. I also used this to jack up the car and as an impact
24:01
Didn't want to pull out the air compressor and impact much easier. 12 volt. Got the job done
24:10
If this was helpful for you and you know I know I couldn't find anything really on YouTube
