Navigating the Daily Tasks of Life on a Boat | Ep 52

Cleaning Day: The Never-Ending Battle with Dirt

Today is cleaning day, and we all know what that means! My wife is vacuuming the couch, and it seems like hair is everywhere. We jokingly call it “muffing day” – a day dedicated to getting everything looking clean and tidy.

The Never-Ending Battle with Dirt

As we tackle the mess, the floor is a major focus. It’s been dusty outside, and we can see the dirt has made its way indoors. My babe has her mop bucket “the sink” ready to go, and we’re about to see some serious transformation.

Before and After: The Floor Transformation

Right now, our floor looks pretty grimy. But after some elbow grease, it’s time to reveal the freshly mopped surface. It’s important to note that while it looks shiny right now, that’s only because it’s wet. The real test will be how it looks once it dries.

Before and After: The Floor Transformation

As the rain pours outside, we can’t  open the windows to help speed up the drying process. It’s a little cold in Florida, but we’re making it work. The freshly cleaned floor is definitely looking less dirty, but the shine? That’s still a work in progress.

A New Rug: Adding Comfort and Style

After cleaning, we’re excited to unveil a new rug! It’s soft, colorful, and even washable, although we’re not sure how easy that will be on a boat. My wife loves the color, and we both agree it’s a nice upgrade from the old one.

Our furry friend, Bella, seems curious about the new addition. We have to remind her to keep it clean this time around!

Tech Upgrades: A New Keyboard for Convenience

As we continue to improve our living space, I’ve picked up a new keyboard for my wife’s tablet. We’re hoping it fits well and enhances her productivity without draining too much power. The keyboard is chargeable via USB, and it’s designed to be portable.

Setting Up the Keyboard

Unboxing the keyboard reveals a sleek design and a cleaning tool that always seems to come with tech gadgets. As I set it up, I’m excited to see how it pairs with her tablet. After a bit of fiddling, we’re connected, and it’s time to test it out!

Pairing goes smoothly, and suddenly we have a mouse and keyboard set up! This will definitely help streamline her work process while we’re on the boat.

DIY Plumbing: Navigating Challenges

Switching gears, let’s talk about some DIY projects. Recently, I replumbed our watermaker, thinking it would be a straightforward task. However, after running the water maker for a short while, I discovered a major leak. The whole kitchen flooded, and it was a mess!

Fixing the Flood: Lessons Learned

After the initial chaos, I realized that one of my plumbing angles was off. I adjusted the pipes, hoping to level them out for better drainage. It’s all part of the learning curve of living on a boat!

Now, I’m left with some wet areas to vacuum up and a bit of rinsing to do, especially since the water has high salt content from the water maker.

Cooking Up a Storm: Dinner Plans

As the day winds down, it’s time to whip up some dinner. We’re using leftovers, which is always a win on a boat. Tonight’s menu includes beef with onions, mushroom soup, and rice. I might even throw in some corn for good measure!

Cooking Tips and Tricks

Cooking Tips and Tricks

Preparing food on a boat can be tricky, especially when it comes to cutting vegetables. My partner is cutting onions, and we share a laugh as she struggles not to cry from the fumes. A simple tip? Cut the ends off to make it easier!

Making Gravy: A Comfort Food Classic

Along with our main dish, we’re making homemade gravy. It’s a simple mixture of butter and flour, and while we’re out of milk, we’re improvising with water. The key is to get that glossy look, which means whisking it to perfection!

As the gravy thickens, we add a generous amount of pepper and salt to taste. It’s all about finding that perfect balance, and we’re excited to dig in!

Confronting Rust: Maintenance on the Boat

Rust is a constant battle when living on a boat, and I’ve been tackling it head-on. I found a product that works wonders on the engine and decided to try it on some rusty parts.

With minimal effort, I sprayed the rusted areas and let the product do its magic. Days later, I was amazed to see the transformation. The once rusty parts now look almost brand new. It’s a quick solution to an ongoing problem!

Conclusion: The Ups and Downs of Boat Life

Every day on the boat brings its own set of challenges and victories. Whether we’re cleaning, cooking, or tackling DIY projects, we’re making the most of our space and our time together. Life on the water is never dull, and we wouldn’t have it any other way!
