Sailing to Fox Town, Our First Taste of Civilization

Arriving in Fox Town Bahamas

As we arrived in Fox Town, the first thing that caught our eye was the vibrant atmosphere. The sound of laughter and music filled the air, inviting us to explore. There’s our dinghy, and way over there is our boat. We were ready to dive into the local culture, starting with a visit to the Da Valley Restaurant & Bar, renowned for its amazing conch fritters. We couldn’t wait to try them!

Tasting Local Flavors

We ordered conch fritters and burgers, which came to a reasonable $44. The food was delicious, and we enjoyed local beers alongside our meal. I opted for a local brew, while my babe chose something from further afield. It’s important to indulge in local flavors when traveling, and this meal did not disappoint.

Grocery Shopping in Paradise

After our meal, we took a stroll across from the restaurant to a small grocery store. The selection was modest, but the prices were reasonable. We picked up some fresh veggies, potatoes, and homemade bread, which smelled heavenly. It was a simple yet satisfying grocery haul, costing us around $33.

Weathering the Elements

The weather during our stay was quite unexpected. It was chilly for the Bahamas, and we found ourselves bundled up. It’s a strange feeling to be in a tropical location and still feel cold! Our boat was anchored just behind a rock, and we were ready to return to it after a day filled with exploration.

Exploring Beyond the Boat

This trip was my wife’s first real venture off the boat, and she was excited to try the local bread. We were eager to enjoy the fruits of our labor, especially after hearing how great the bread was. It’s amazing how different ingredients can make such a difference in flavor. The bread was indeed delicious!

Water Maker Wonders

In the background, our water maker was busy cleaning itself, preparing to provide us with fresh drinking water. It’s been working like a charm, ensuring we have all the fresh water we need for our sailing adventures. If you’re curious about how it works, check out our dedicated video on the water maker!

Navigating to Crab Cay

As we prepared to leave Fox Town, we said goodbye to our friends, who was also anchored nearby. We were on our way to Crab Cay, and the weather was starting to change. A front was moving in, and we needed to make our way through the rocky waters before it hit. I took the helm, feeling the thrill of adventure.

The Center of the World

On our journey, we passed by a rock that’s known as the “center of the world” in this area. It’s a fun landmark, connecting various islands and routes. Navigating through the rocky areas requires skill, and I had to adjust our course multiple times to avoid any mishaps.

Anchoring at Crab Cay

After a bit of a rough ride, we finally reached our anchorage at Crab Cay. The waters were calmer here, a welcome change after the choppy journey. We spotted palm trees and hoped for a beach, though we joked that it might just be a cliff instead!

Exploring Crab Island

Crab Island offered a new landscape to explore. With our dog in tow, we ventured closer to the shore. We debated whether we could take the boat through a cut that looked promising, but the rocky terrain made us cautious. Safety first, after all!

Finding a Beach

As we approached the supposed beach area, we were met with disappointment. What looked like sand turned out to be covered in rocks and moss. It was slippery, and we were both hesitant to venture too far without proper shoes. We decided to stay safe and explore the trails instead.

Adventures Along the Trail

We made our way along a trail, though we quickly encountered trash and debris from previous visitors. It’s disheartening to see such beautiful places marred by litter. We kept our eyes peeled for any signs of wildlife, but it was mostly quiet.

Bath Time for Bella

After a long day of exploration, it was time for our pup, Bella, to have her first bath in a while. We used warm water left over from our engine, and she seemed to enjoy it. A clean dog is a happy dog, especially after a day spent in the salty sea!

Reflections on the Journey

As the day came to a close, we felt fulfilled by our adventures in Fox Town and Crab Cay. Each stop brought new experiences, from savoring local cuisine to navigating rocky waters. The journey is about the memories we create together, and we cherish every moment.

Looking Ahead

As we continue our sailing journey, we’re excited for what lies ahead. Whether it’s discovering new islands, trying out local delicacies, or enjoying the tranquility of the sea, we’re ready for it all. Join us on our next adventure as we explore more of the beautiful Bahamas and beyond!
