So the AC is off and your ready to pump that heat, cause Baby… It’s cold outside! Well hear are some things that will help improve the efficiency of your heat pump. Also keep you AC in great health for when warmth come back to town.

Before it gets to cold outside, need to clear most of the water from the drain pipe. This keep growth in the pipe down, and it less likely to freeze in the winter. There are two ways we keep our AC drain clear, we either blow or suck. To blow the water out you are going to need a compressor, suck a wet dry vac.

If you want to use you compressor, your drain pipe has to have a check point. If install this is close to the AC and always above the water line. To blow the water out of the pipe, please go to this point in the video.

Sucking the water out may be easier and cheaper. I would not say everyone has a shop- vac, but for us, we have never not had one. So for this you simply just suck the water and gunk out of the pipe. Only use a vacuum that can be used in wet conditions.

Now that you have cleared the pipe, need to add something to help kill any growth. Most of the time I use either bleach or water. If you live in a place that freezes and your line will hold water, you probably want to add some antifreeze to the line. The make this for things like RVs and Pool Systems, just make sure you use something that is safe for the environment.

The last thing we do and something I like to do every quarter is spray out or AC compressor outside. This mostly helps the efficiency of your unit and to prevent damage.
